Starten en de eerste paar honderd meter rijden lukt meestal wel.
Door het verdampen vam de LPG koelt de verdamper daarna te veel af en gaat de motor uit.
Het duurt dan een tijd voordat de boel weer ontdooid is waarna je weer kint starten en rijden.
Hoe ver je er mee kunt rijden is afhankelijk van de buitentemperatuur, de temperatuur van de motor en hoever je het gaspedaal intrapt (als je sneller wilt rijden moet er meer LPG erdampt worden en koelt de verdamper sneller af).
Zoals al door enkelen geopperd kun je de koelvloeistof geforceerd door de verdamper pompen, dan zal het verschijnsel geheel of grotendeels verholpen worden.

Gebruik ook een koelvloeistof die beschermd tot een zo laag mogelijke temperatuur.
-26 graden is standaard, -36 graden is aan te bevelen in dit geval.

Buiten dit ongemak is een auto die alleen op LPG loopt ook lastig als je per ongeluk de tank leeg rijdt, even met een jerrycan wat gas halen is mij nog niet gelukt. Houd er rekening mee dat de tankmeter op LPG niet altijd even naukeurig is, het verbruik bij koude hoger kan zijn door andere samenstelling van het gas, factoren die je kunnen verrassen, met een lege tank als gevolg.
Ook hebben lang niet alle pompstations een LPG pomp, wat afhankelijk van waar je bent ook erg lastig kan zijn.
Bij mij zou de auto om deze redenen ook op benzine moeten kunnen lopen, of dat ook voor jou geldt, is een afweging die je zelf moet maken.

Je kunt ook, in België alleszins, alleen tanken bij een pomp waar iemand aanwezig is, dus 's nachts alleen op een snelweg..

Gewoon starten en rijden OOK bij -10C - wel een extra circulatiepompje voor het water. Het enige wat ik merk is als hij lang (een nachtje) stilstaat wat langer moet starten.... De aanvoerleiding van de verdamper is dan leeg.

Ik rijdt zelf een W116 (namelijk een 280S) en deze liep niet / nauwelijks op benzine.
Ik heb dat eerst (laten) maken voor er gas in is gekomen.
Ik wil namelijk op beide brandstoffen kunnen rijden dan.

Dank voor jullie feedback! Ik laat de auto staan en ga op zoek naar een die op beide brandstoffen kan rijden. Zeker omdat ik a-technisch ben, moet ik niet teveel risico nemen. Dan maar wat meer geld uitgeven aan een beter exemplaar.

Het pompje zet tussen de koelwaterslang die naar de LPG verdamper gaat.
Hierdoor krijg je een betere doorstroming van koelvloeistof in de verdamper,zodat deze niet meer kan bevriezen.
Je kunt een willekeurig pompje ertussen zetten van een sloopauto.Is simpel en goedkoop klusje.

Dergelijke pompjes worden door Mercedes gebruikt in o.a. de W126 en W124 om een betere werking van de kachel te krijgen bij lage motortoerentallen.

Aha! In dat geval schrik ik niet meer zo snel terug van een 280SE die enkel nog op gas rijdt. Dat blijkt overigens best vaak het geval bij exemplaren die te koop worden aangeboden, zo is me opgevallen.

Ja het is eigenlijk best jammer, mensen hoeven er maar af en toe een beetje op benzine te rijden zodat het syteem werkend zou blijven. Maar uit gierigheid of nalatigheid gebeurd dat dus vaak niet..

k heb ook een 280. op LPG en op benzine. Ik moet zeggen dat hij veel makkelijker start op LPG en makkelijker blijft draaien als hij koud is. Op benzine is dat een heel ander verhaal. Dus ik zou daar niet noodzakelijk van wakker liggen.

Ik heb heel lang geleden een W115 280 met LPG gehad.
Die startte ook niet goed op benzine, het gas blok zat boven de carburateur en die sleet daar nogal van.

Als het echt koud was gooide ik altijd 's ochtends heet water over de verdamper, dan bevroor hij niet. Als je onderweg bent en geen heet water bij de hand hebt is er een andere manier om hem op te warmen. Het is verstandig om er dan later een emmertje water overheen te gooien anders ruikt het niet zo fris.

Wat je noemt zijn noodoplossingen, het lijkt mij verstandig het koelsysteem op orde te brengen als je telkens last hebt van een bevriezende verdamper. ;)

De meeste koelvloeistof werkt tot -36 .
Verdampen van gas onttrekt veel warmte aan de verdamper.
Als het buiten -25 is kan de temperatuur van de verdamper bij een koude start gemakkelijk onder de -36 dalen, dan bevriest hij, ook al is je koelsysteem helemaal in orde.

Het is nog de vraag tot welke temperatuur de kelvloeistof in de meeste auto’s beschermd.
Ik durf niet te beweren dat de meesten tot -36 beschermd zijn. :cool:

ALS het 25 graden onder nul is, zal de verdamper bij een koude start inderdaad snel kunnen bevriezen, maar hoe vaak komt dat voor bij ons?
